The Roger Krodle Memorial Car Show held it's first show in July 10, 2004. The show benefited the
United Way of Hunt County. It was a huge success and it was decided to bring the show back for another
round in 2005.
Again July 23, 2005, the show was put on and the proceeds again went to the United Way
of Hunt County. Again the show was a success with even more cars than the previous year.
In 2006,
it was decided to switch our beneficiary from the United Way of Hunt County to the Hunt County Special Olympics
Booster Club. This had special meaning for the family as our cousin Rick Kohn, is the coordinator for the Hunt County
Booster Club. The July 8, 2006 show was a resounding success, with many more cars coming in than ever before. The Hunt County
Special Olympics Booster Club asked us if we would be willing to work with them in 2007, and we said yes immediately.
The July, 2007, show was in a little jeapordy from the weather. Many days of rain proceeded the show and there was some
discussion about "what if it rained" and "how many would come", but on July 7, 2007, the car lovers out-did theirselves again. They
showed in force and we had a wonderful show.
We had a lower turnout for the July 2008 show, we are hoping gas prices were the reason. We had a great band, Blast from the Past, and we had a real wild west shooting show. Hopefully everyone really enjoyed the entertainment as they were both exceptional.
So for this year's show on July 11, 2009, we are hoping for a
successful show with many, many entrants. Again our beneficiary will be the Hunt County Special Olympics Booster Club, all monies raised for this show goes directly to
them and provides for their events throughout the year.
But where did this show get it's start.
It started with tragedy. Our father passed away unexpectedly and we really didn't know what to do with
ourselves. We met with Bob Mason, the driving force behind our show, to make arraingements for the funeral.
We told Mr. Mason that dad loved cars and 50's music, so we incorporated that into the proceedings. All of my
father's friends were asked to drive their classic cars in the funeral procession. And the idea spawned from
there. Why not have a car show, a memorial to Roger Krodle? Where would we have it, who would show up?
After
much discussion it was decided that we'd need a lot of room and the Hunt County Fairgrounds provided just the
place. The fairgrounds were secured, and the call went out to friends and family to bring their cars for the show.
And they did, in force.
And really they are the ones who make the show a success. Each year family and friends work together to organize,
advertise, and work the show. And they do work! IF it weren't for these special people we wouldn't have the Roger
Krodle Memorial Car Show.
We thank you one and all, volunteers, sponsors, car owners, and entertainers.
